Structured Shipboard Training Program (SSTP) for GP Rating
- Board Of Examination for Seafarers Trust has revived its earlier approval to conduct SST Programme, vide recently received DGS letter F.No. 25-13011/1/2024-NT-DGS (Comp No. 29817) dated 19th March 2025.
- Therefore, BES is now ready to offer the SST programme, in reference to MS Notice No. 15 of 2024 dated 29.11.24, for those candidates who have successfully completed their GP Rating course (of six-month duration) and are assigned by a shipping company to join their ships in the capacity of NCV Deck cadet.
- The SST programme is designed for 12-month service on-board ships.
- A candidate undergoing this programme would be issued Course material (Learning Guides, Journals and the Training Record Book). The course material covers the required syllabus for all three functions, namely; Navigation, Operational safety & Care of Personnel and Cargo Handlingstowage and commercial operations.
- The role of the BES would be to issue the aforesaid course material, to verify the completeness of the assignments and the Training Record Book, as required in the course material.
- Subsequent to the successful completion of the SST Programme, BES would issue a “Completion Certificate” to the candidate for further submissions and assessment by the Mercantile Marine Department for eligibility to be admitted in the prescribed NWKO(NCV) post-sea course followed by the NWKO(NCV) certificate of competency examination.
- The conduct of the training on-board the ship, is the mandate of the shipping company.
- The one-time cost for the course material and assessments of the completeness of assignments etc (two times during the 12 months duration) is Rs. 15,000 plus GST, payable by the candidate or the sponsoring company.
- All those who fulfil the criteria as stated above, may contact the BEST for enrolment and issuance of the course material for the SST Program.
